Rita Young was always the Dark Horse in her class. She was not only a competitive sprinter but also a survivalist able to tackle any challenge that life threw at her.
That was until a terrible crash occurred during a school trip to (insert foreign locale of your campaign here). The only survivors were Rita and the popular kid Peter Sylvestre. Now, only with their wits and the supplies that they had on the bus they have been thrown into a maelstrom of eldritch horrors unlike anything the world has ever seen! With only the things Rita had with her on the bus and her wits will she make it out alive.
This Dark Horse Rita deck is designed for 3 or 4 player campaigns. Although Rita lacks the ability to act as a dedicated fighter or cluever, with access to Fire Axe and Mariner's Compass at level 0 she can fill in the gaps and pick up those last couple clues or smash that large enemy after juking it with her high score. With Schoffner's Catalogue she can help her fighter or cluever to pay for their pricey assets and with Jury-Rig she can help out herself or a pal by adding barbed wire to their Fingerprint Kit, .45 Automatic, or her Mariner's Compass.
Where this deck really shines though is when you upgrade into two copies of Crafty. The synergies between Rita's tricky deck building, and her access to some of the best tools in the game (Mariner's Compass and Fire Extinguisher) allow her to be incredibly consistent even with 0 resources in her pool.
For mulligan you really want to hit Peter Sylvestre and Dark Horse at level 0, but the second you get your Craftys in your deck you are going to mulligan hard for them. Manual Dexterity, Take Heart, Backpack, and Rabbit's Foot, allow you to draw cards or effectively remove item assets from your deck to find your Craftys faster if you don't get them in the mulligan. Once you have Crafty, you want to go immediately for Fire Extinguisher to replace your Fire Axe and then move on to some of the bouncing tricks. With Crafty you can afford Slip Away, Cheap Shot, and even a Pilfer which you simply can't without it. Picking up Easy Mark early is also great as it can replace your Sneak Bys and replaces itself when played to more easily find Crafty. Another great option is a couple copies of Sweeping Kick. 1 cost, 1xp, testing at base 8, can use crafty, and deals 3 damage. Yes please!
To round out the upgrades a a couple copies of Jessica Hyde, Peter Sylvestre, and a copy of Charisma can go a long way to keep Rita alive when she is constantly fighting and evading enemies.
The other options in the side deck are at the discretion of the player.
I hope you like the deck! I am open to suggestions for how to make it even better. I love this underdog investigator and I am doing my best to make her shine. I will add more once I play the deck in my upcoming Forgotten Age Campaign.
