SUMMARY
This deck takes full advantage of Double, Double. Casting two copies of Sneak Attack, "Look what I found!", Intel Report, or Small Favor create some MASSIVE plays. But to do this, Preston needs money!
Luckily he has access to Family Inheritance which gives him 4 resources each turn! additionally we're running Emergency Cache, Easy Mark, and Hot Streak. Which again become even better with Double, Double!
Outside of the big plays offered by Double, Double Preston will be using Hope, Zeal, and Augur from Miss Doyle as well as Trial by Fire and Well Connected to boost his stats to a competent level, though only temporarily.
Preston can also spend his money on Dig Deep and Fire Axe to hit monsters and pass treachery encounter cards.
PROS
- 1 - Lots of automatic successes.
- 2 - Lots or resources
- 3 - Lots of Big Plays
CONS
- 1 - Managing your resources can get tricky.
- 2 - All your stats are low.
- 3 - Not doing much outside of big plays.
- 4 - Requires team, not great solo.
MANAGING YOUR MONEY
This is the trickiest part to the deck and takes some practice.
Since it takes an action to collect resources from Family Inheritance, you'll want to maximize when you collect money from it. Ideally, you'll want to hold onto Easy Mark, Emergency Cache, and Hot Streak until you can play two of more of them, then collect all the money from it in one turn.
Most of the time, Preston will be running "low", meaning he will have no personal resources, to power Dark Horse and spend his Family Inheritance on cards like Trial by Fire, Fire Axe, and Dig Deep.
Preston will occasionally spend a turn to play a bunch of resource cards and collect his Family Inheritance to run "High", meaning he will have stacks of personal resources, to setup for some big plays with Double, Double, power a Well Connected, or paying off Lodge "Debts". We use Easy Mark and Emergency Cache for the card draw to find Double, Double or a big-play card like Intel Report or Small Favor.
SERVICES AND FAVORS
An Intel Report is the equivalent to 4 actions. Two to move & two to collect clues, not to mention you don't need to pull tokens from the chaos game (something Preston likes to avoid) nor the actions it takes to return to your current location. It's powerful action economy in exchange for resources. This is what Preston is perfect for.
