This deck aims to get out Pendant of the Queen quickly and keep recharging it from Divination using Eldritch Sophist. The queen's testless clue / evade and the extreme mobility trivializes most scenarios even on hard mode. This combo build works well with Harvey Walters for two reasons:
- he has great card draw ensuring that you can consistently find your combo pieces and
- he is a great clue-getter from the start, so he is a great team member even while assembling his combo.
The version I have here includes the most critical upgrades, where the deck is already very strong. Here is the level 0 version and suggested further upgrades can be found in the side deck.
Notes:
- During mulligan prioritize cards that draw you a card during the investigator's phase, i.e. Whitton Greene, Grim Memoir, Vault of Knowledge, Eureka!. Also a Crack the Case / Cryptic Writings is great to boost early economy, while Mind over Matter provides security against early enemy encounters.
- Early on make sure you trigger your every turn to get 3 cards every turn, quickly filling your hand. However, do not waste actions on drawing cards, you have Whitton Greene, Grim Memoir, Vault of Knowledge, Eureka! in the deck to trigger your ability.
- Only use Grim Memoir if its needed to trigger your ability, otherwise the secrets can be quickly depleted. For example, if you can get your card draw, and hence the trigger, from Whitton Greene, then do that instead of using a Grim Memoir secret. Relatedly, do not waste secrets on high shroud locations, you have Extensive Research for that.
- Get out Eldritch Sophist before you have the Pendant of the Queen out, so you can move all the secrets from Eldritch Sophist to Grim Memoir before you move start moving the charges from Divination to Pendant of the Queen (you can only move 1 secret/charge per round).
- When your hand is near full use Glimpse the Unthinkable to find cards you still need. This card is also great to play when you just cycled through your deck and want to find what you need. Also, it can be used to put back Cryptic Writings from your hand into your deck.
- Once you have Occult Lexicon out and a Blood-Rite or two in hand, you can wonder around freely without your fighter following. Try to keep some Blood-Rites for end-of-scenario big bosses, just keep in mind that damage from Blood-Rite requires resources, plan accordingly!
- This deck eats a lot of resources, hence the double Crack the Case and Cryptic Writings. This build works best when paired with other investigators who can help with early game resource generation, e.g. Faustian Bargain, Stand Together etc.
- This build assumes someone else can heal heart/brain. If that's not the case, find place for Bizarre Diagnosis and Logical Reasoning - I would remove one Mind over Matter and one Extensive Research. Be aware that the more you cycle through your deck, the more likely Thrice-Damned Curiosity to become a problem.
- If needed you can use Divination for extra clue-getting, but their purpose is to supply charges for the Pendant of the Queen.
- With 8 horror and plenty of horror soak in the deck there is no reason not to take In the Thick of It and get that Charisma before the first scenario. Your next 3xp should go towards Segment of Onyx and the Divinations, so your combo is ready by scenario 2.
- After several test runs, I decided against including Dream-Enhancing Serum as it is best played early, but there are already a number of costly assets that are also best played early.
Pair this build with a capable fighter and this should work well for hard mode campaigns, hope you enjoy!
