Home Alone Wendy

Disclaimer : English is not my mother tongue, please feel free to point out errors so I can fix them.

Why ?

When I opened The Phantom of Truth pack and saw Snare Trap I instantly wanted to build a deck using all Survivor tricks. Wendy is best suited for this deck due to her high agility and since she's a child ... let's make a Home Alone Wendy ! Wendy is one of my favorite investigators and, whatever others might state, she is a very capable solo investigator and much more fun to play than more straightforward investigators.

What's in the deck ?

The deck is built around the idea of using tricks to enable creative ways of dealing with enemies. Evade, move enemies around, avoid them, go unseen, escape them. Use Resourceful to get another use of those tricks or to get a Lucky! back.

In case of emergency or when you really need to punch something, Fire Axe, Sneak Attack and Fight or Flight get you covered.

Pickpocketing rewards evasion and give you cards to fuel Wendy's ability.

Be aware that most tricks don't work on Elite enemies.

What's not in the deck ?

An earlier version had Backstab instead of Sneak Attack but I often found hard to justify the cost and there isn't a lot of 3-health enemies, they are either 2-health or 4-health.

Stealth could have been a nice addition but it would have taken the slot of Pickpocketing and I think the latter is more suited for this deck. Moreover Stealth can't be used in conjunction with Bait and Switch.

Cheap Shot also is an interesting one but Wendy's combat skill is too low for it to reliably trigger.

What to upgrade into ?

Lockpicks should be your first upgrade (replacing Flashlight). It's a no brainer, it's really good in Wendy.

Next, Pickpocketing is a nice one. The fact that it becomes fast is a really nice addition as it allows you to play it only when needed and otherwise keep those 2 resources for something else.

And then you can start going crazy and add the tricky cards : Snare Trap and Lure.

Is it good ?

It's clearly not an optimal deck but it's okay. All those tricks are pretty situational and use slots that could have been used for more broadly useful cards.

Is it fun ?

Hell yes ! If you have this turn where you lure a bunch of enemies into a trap and sneak your way through them, you will know what I mean.

Cool, interesting deck idea & I think Wendy as a sneaky trapster will only get stronger and stronger. Tell me about resources - no Emergency Cache, no Lone Wolf here, and lots of events (plus a fire axe) eat up resources. I'm running a Wendy at the moment who runs Madame Labranche purely to bounce out of a resource hole in a pinch, but I can see how BMoC is integral to the agility strategy here. I just wonder if you upgrade into lockpicks the cost increases...

Incidentally, upgrading into Cat Burglar could be very strong here: you can disengage from enemies and set a snare trap as you leave, ensuring that an enemy chases you into one... just a thought! Great deck!

Fire Axe is in there as a backup (and for those Swarm of Rats you'd better kill instead of constantly evading). Appart from that, the average card cost is 1.16 for this deck so the 1 resource from upkeep should get you going.

Once you upgrade into Pickpocketing, you have another way of getting resources.

Good point on Cat Burglar !
