Thanks to Dr. Elli Horowitz, Roland Banks can get either a weapon (if he didn't get one in his hand on turn 1) or a free useful accessory that will help him compensate his weak agility and medium willpower.

Clue gathering: Art student, Working a Hunch, Flashlight Fighting: .45 automatic, Enchanted Blade, Vicious Blow Willpower & Agility protection: Tooth of Etzli, Hallowed Mirror, Logical Reasoning, Take the Initiative

Recursivity is an issue he has to tackle as soon as possible. That's why, in the upgrade path, Well-Maintained is top priority. Charisma will allow for Art Students to join without removing Dr. Elli Horowitz. Then, it's time to gather some useful relics. Here is a short list of useful relics to buy:

-Enchanted Blade (then you can remove Logical Reasoning)

-Timeworn Brand (instead of .45 Automatic, except if you fear there may be creatures that need to be fought with firearms…)

-Elder Sign Amulet (again, then you can remove Logical Reasoning)

-Key of Ys

-Hemispheric Map

-The Hungering Blade

-Armor of Ardennes

-Pendant of the Queen and its Segments of Onyx (a nice object for Roland, but unfortunately not a good pick for a deck based on Dr. Elli Horowitz, it would be a shame to use her ability to get a Segment of Onyx...)
