Odd Rex — A Blessing in Disguise
A deck trying to utilize the best of Rex Murphy 's ability and Jeremiah Kirby! Designed for multiplayer game especially suitable for teams which can handle the token well. Also very thematic for Rex's bad luck, charm and skills!
(Not tested yet — feedback welcome!)
When Jeremiah Kirby enters play, an average of 5*21/32~3.5 cards are expected to be drawn! Very Overwhelming! Yes the cost of most cards in this deck is odd! Let's take a close look at those odd cards:
The Odd Cards
The whole deck is tuned so that when Jeremiah Kirby reveals the top 5 and you call "odd," almost everything sticks to your hand. The two cards that make the engine worth building around are both odd 1-cost:
- Research Notes (1) — banks every clue you "drop" as evidence, then refunds them as fresh clues with a (0) . This is the heart of the drop-clue engine.
- Scrimshaw Charm (1) — turns tokens into resources. It is the cheapest way to feed the bag, and with Rex it can also feed Research Notes instead.
The rest of the odd ones round the curve out so Kirby's "odd" call almost never whiffs:
-
Captivating Discovery (1) — the deck's premier draw + clue-bank combo card.
-
Mouse Mask (1) — hands you +2 (or +2 ) and refuels every time you reveal or put a location into play — exactly what a clue-hunting Rex does all game.
-
Magnifying Glass (1) — +1 while investigating, almost an auto-include.
-
Dr. William T. Maleson (1) — encounter-deck denial that costs a clue… But Rex haves his right to pay with tokens.
-
Transmogrify (1) — evade with and bolt an enemy down into a repeatable clue dispenser.
-
Calling in Favors (1) and Hit and Run (1) — the ally flicker package.
-
Honed Instinct (1) — a free extra action, and can be upgraded to at most level 4 to enjoy two free actions and triggered more easily!
-
Search for the Truth (1) — draws X, or return X from discard piles with some cost :)
-
Dorothy Simmons (3) instead of Dr. Milan Christopher (4)
-
The Raven Quill (3) — the odd 3rd hand slot if level-uped!
With so many odd cards, no wonder rex is In the Thick of It. But don't worry he got Charisma to adventure with all of his allies!
The honest warning: this deck only shines at a curse-literate table. Poor Rex is cursed. Your teammates shall either be able to handle the or pray for themselfs :)
Remind them to use these cards if they could:
