Steady-Handed Katana wielder

Roland katana deck for true solo. I have tested running this in Dream Eaters waking side and came out with a victory.

Roland is one of the few investigators with access to Katana as well as Steady-Handed and the combo is surprisingly consistent when you are aiming for 4 over the fight value (in standard). All tokens from -1 to -3 gives you the Katana +2 dmg exhaust using Steady-Handed, which should kill most enemies. Vicious blow should help with beefier enemies. Steady-Handed also takes care of horror healing for the most part. Try to Hard mulligan for tarots, Milan, Katana and Steady-Handed.

Clue gathering is done with extra intelligence from Death and Milan ending up in 5 , which should be good enough for 3 shroud or lower. Higher shroud values can he handled by killing enemies in those locations with Rolands ability using On the Hunt, or by using Working a Hunch, Mysteries Remains or Perception.

Upgrade path

Deck works quite well on first scenario already and upgrades mostly bring consistency as you want to get set up very early due to limited time in true solo. Were using the replacement weakness and signature due to it being much more lenient weakness and the pistol cannot fit into Rolands hands. Mysteries Remains also acts as an extra Working a Hunch. Upgrades after this could go to for example On the Hunt (3) or another weapon to replace the katana. Also Moon Pendant might be worth considering to get the other tarot into play for total of 6 .

Put Emergency cache, Ever vigilant and Prepared for the worst into Stick to the Plan.

 Cost Total
Crack the Case → Death • XIII 1 XP 1 XP
+ Stick to the Plan ••• 6 XP 7 XP
Emergency Cache → Ever Vigilant 1 XP 8 XP
Emergency Cache Emergency Cache •• 2 XP 10 XP
Vicious Blow Vicious Blow •• 2 XP 12 XP
Vicious Blow Vicious Blow •• 2 XP 14 XP

Limitations

Some struggles with the deck included fighting 1 fight monsters with multiple health as it is very hard to get the extra damage from Katana with 6 vs 1 fight. Also the deck is very reliant on finding Katana, Steady-Handed and at least one +1 . I also tried using chemistry set, but I felt it was not worth the slot, even with steady-handed.

I could see Brand of Cthugha (1) helping alleviate some of the problems with Katana (0). Brand doesn’t take up any hand-slots, dispatched 1-health enemies very neatly, and ups the asset count for Ever Vigilant (1).

One health enemies die to regular hit or fast action from Katana with help of Wolf Mask. The problem was mostly the many actions it takes using katana to kill swarming 1-fight enemies with many health points as it is hard to guarantee the big damage hit from Katana. I could see Brand of Cthugha helping with those kinds of enemies. Good suggestion!

Also Mk 1 Grenades could be an alternative for the upgraded Brand of Cthugha when fighting multiple enemies.
