I am wrapping up my AHLCG Chapter 1, and there were a few investigators I never played. Nate was one of them. At the same time I got The Ghosts of Onigawa printed, and I figured - why not try this?
Now, one of the cards in Nate's deck is from Onigawa called The Obsidian Manifold, it's a 3 cost hand slot asset that for a fast action and discard gets you a hand slot item and plays it for the cost-3. It is proxied by the Machete in later deck versions. It did not make much of a difference, except to kick The Book of War out of my hand, but I did not have the time or need to play another one. Still, happy to use it.
The Book of War was the first thing I added; Nate is an Events player, and playing One-Two Punch at the big bad THRICE was amazing. I was thinking about Ancestral Token or Ofuda for thematic reasons, but figured I'd rather have more events. Katana wanted too many hand slots, and would prob do 1 damage most of the time.
Hyperphysical Shotcaster was great at mining clues. The plan was to reveal all the locations, get a few with Grete Wagner or Evidence! or Perception, then camp in one location, Breach the Door there, and mine clues at difficulty 0. This worked great, except for a couple scenarios which seemed to be designed against this strategy; I had too many charges to be honest, I decided to go for money printing option instead of +2 aether. Bandolier was planned to be useful in the last scenario where I had some hand using story assets, but ended up to be not useful.
Overall great solo character, Blessed Blade for campaign reasons worked better than Timeworn Brand, The Fool • 0 sorts all problems with money, but mostly after setup you don't need money. Could use some mobility, but Guardians don't have much besides Safeguard so I had to forego a VP a couple of times. Would probably not try in Edge of the Earth.
