Hello fellow investigators.
This is my solo deck for Phoenix aka Carolyn Fern.
My choices are for a spesific upgrade. Brother Xavier / Stick to the Plan / Fearless / Pathfinder / Book of Shadows are the core body of my upgrade deck.
Speaking of that let me explain my 0xp card choices: Magnifying Glass: fast , boosts your intellect up to 5. You can always uprgade but not necessery.
Clarity of Mind : Your main healing card that procs your ability into resourse pool. Book of Shadows later on boosts this card.
Shrivelling: Your main dmg dealer. Mulligan hard for that. After you build your main upgrade core you can swap your Delve Too Deep with Book of Shadows to boost that card.
St. Hubert's Key: the new addiction for every mystic fan. Carolyn with her 9 sanity can totally utilize this charm. Also it procs your ability if you're going to be defeated ^^.
Guard Dog: I chose this card cause one of her main weaknesses is her low life. You need some good body and this cute dog also deals dmg every time it gets hurt. You upgrade them to Brother Xavier later on the game.
Fieldwork: for the extra skill boost and goes great later on with Pathfinder.
Forbidden Knowledge: extra resourses plus plays around with carolyns ability and combos well with Clarity of Mind.
Delve Too Deep: extra exp points. Try to play it at the end of every scenario.
Dodge: I chose this over Hypnotic Gaze cause i combo it with Stick to the Plan.
Dynamite Blast: Always enjoy a good old blast ^^
Emergency Cache: extra resourses plus you can combo with Stick to the Plan
Shortcut: Utility card goes well with Stick to the Plan and later on you upgrade it to Pathfinder.
Ward of Protection: In this investigator is better than Forewarned cause you can utilize it the horror you take to your advantage. Great card overall and a must have.
Fearless: Your 2nd healing card and willpower skill test boost for that nasty encounter cards.
Inquiring Mind: You can use it in every skill and helps you in those agility tests.
Inspiring Presence: Your 3nd healing card that can proc your ability.
Enjoy her guys!

Apr 08, 2018Recharge imo is far better than Book of Shadows. Also, Painkillers are really great on her. |
Apr 08, 2018For Liquid Courage i dont wanna test and fail for some reason ( tentacle ) especially if i'm playing hard mode. While Peter Sylvestre is great and combos well as you said i already explain why i chose Guard Dog. You need a body to protect you. With Peter Sylvestre you 're up to 7 life while with dog you can protect from couple of hits while applying dmg to monsters. Now for Recharge. Its true that fast recharge is better than continuous one. But i wanna avoid to draw from the chaos bag a token and discard my only dmg choice ( Shrivelling ) especially if you mulligan hard to find it. Painkillers is great i was thinking to add it but in the end i went with 2x Forbidden Knowledge to make my resources flow than healing a dmg. |
Apr 08, 2018First aid is better than clarity of thought most of the time. |
Apr 08, 2018Agree with Myriad however I can see why the OP wanted Clarity of the Mind (combo with Book of the Shadows). Unfortunately Carolyn's deck constraints will not permit Book of the Shadows or Recharge. Both are too high experience than permitted. |
Apr 08, 2018Never mind on the Book of Shadows, I was looking at the wrong one. |
No Liquid Courage? Cheaper, faster, and more charges than clarity, and it doesn't take up a slot. Additionally, Peter Sylvestre combos super well with Forbidden Knowledge and sets off your ability every time he heals horror.
