Your job is to get clues. You can fight well, but depending on your party, you're still the main one pushing the agenda forward. Once a big bad shows up, you're happy to pull out your gat and start blastin', but you're best off having someone around to fight or evade things until you've cracked the case. If you try to play Joe as the party fighter, you simply won't have the toolkit someone like Rita Young or Roland Banks has to excel at enemy management.
