William Yorick Visits Carcosa

While the Shovel and Lantern fit Yorick very thematically they aren't very useful as direct weapons which is something Yorick needs to function, I would pick up at least a pair of guardian weapons or you will struggle to kill anything. (knife is shockingly good in him however, if you can afford its constant replay cost)

Also as a long time Yorick player I can tell you that he needs a lot of economy to work optimally, my personal favourites are stand together (0) and take heart.

Weapons to trigger his ability, resources to pay for it is the core of Yorick.

What guardian weapon would you suggest to replace the shovel with? I was looking at runic axe. Also if I replaced the lantern, what would you suggest for clue gathering? Would Flashlight or Old Key Ring be suitable?

well it depends if you want to be going one or two handed.

One handed good options are machete, meat cleaver and enchanted blade at 0, levelled you have fire extinguisher (3), derringer (2) and Survival knife (2). If you go with one handed tools you could keep the lantern, though key ring and flash light are both solid, of the three I think keyring is the most reliable to use in yorick.

Two handed theres little point keeping investigate tools and just go with baseball bat, runic axe or sledgehammer. with chainsaw later being a very powerful choice. to make up for the lack of investigation hand tools you could run cards like evidence or scene of the crime if you wanted more clue gathering, or just take sharp vision and give it to the int player.

for no handslot fighting options brand of cthugha (1) is amazing, having it as a last resort option when your handslots fail you is great, as is beat cop (2) and Guard dog (2).
