THE SCRYINGS ARE WITHERS.
This is a Jim multiplayer build designed to accompany my article "Big Relic Jim: A unique Mystic playstyle" on riteofseeking.com. More details about the build can be found there. The purpose of this build is to serve as a fighter on the team. Your capacity to get clues is limited, so have someone else working on that.
Build notes not in the article: The Double or Nothing takes up the final out-of-class spot and is preferential for me. I am a huge believer in Double or Nothing + Mystic spells. It will be especially strong if you upgrade your combat spells later on in the campaign. If you want to switch the DoN for something else, go ahead.
Ward of Protection is generically good. Fearless helps negate the downside of playing Ward of Protection (not that Jim needs much help with that anyway), but if you don't think Fearless is necessary, I recommend switching it for Enraptured. Enraptured will help you stack your Shrivelling or Enchanted Blade, helping you fight longer.
Mists of R'lyeh is included as it shores up Jim's weakest area, which is his evasion ability. If you are running The Forgotten Age, you should run two of these.

Apr 19, 2019No it isn't. The updated pdf in the rules section for The Circle Undone sais the following: "If an investigator has limited access to one of the classes on a multiclass card and unlimited access to one of the other classes on that card, it will still occupy one of the investigator’s limited slots unless their deckbuilding options contains the word “other” in it. " Jim's Deckbuilding Options: Mystic cards () level 0-5, Neutral cards level 0-5, up to five level 0 cards from any other class. |

Thanks for posting that. Rules as written, cased closed, until FFG says otherwise. Norman Withers is the only investigator that doesn't have "other" so he is limited with dual class cards. |

Apr 23, 2019Looks like the new FAQ clears this up definitively. Enchanted Blade will not take up Jim's 5x out of faction slot. |
Apr 24, 2019Yep! Just read it! I'm totally happy with this new information! :) |

May 14, 2019Love the deck, looking forward to playing a slightly different version of this when my group gets to circle undone. |
Jun 09, 2019How does this deck do money wise? It has a lot of expensive assets, and no income cards of note? I like the idea (and the article), i just wonder how you make it sing! |
Jun 16, 2019So what upgrades will be a priority for this deck? Grotesque Statue, Spirit Anthame or Shriveling (3/5)? Or may be mystic version of Enchanted Blade? |
Jun 30, 2019I am playing my own variant of this deck and it is yet another kind of fun Jim can bring along ith his velvet jazz. Extra props for makinf Trumpet a valid card (other then triple head commit). I am definitely putting twice Lucky in basically every Jim deck by defeault, unless there is a good (and I mean GOOD) reason not to, hence my take on BRJ has twice lucky. Wondering what the 5th off-class pick would be, as I am not a fan of picking up fragments of Etzli's jar. |
Sep 30, 2019Is Arcane Research something that Big Relic Jim wants? |
Hi there! I like the deck, m8! The only thing that is a minor issue is that Enchanted Blade counts against the 5 card slots :( As a supplement (if you want a hand weapon), I'd go for Spirit Ahtame (or something else entirely, e.g. a 2nd Eldritch inspiration etc.).
Cheers, Tobias
